Many homeowners throughout the Sacramento, CA area rely on conventional ducted systems for both their heating and air conditioning throughout the year—providing warm (furnace) or cool (central AC) air, depending on the season, from a single centralized unit and distributing it through a series of ducts via a fan. It’s an effective system, albeit not your only option.
Consider the ductless air conditioning and heating system, also called the ductless mini split—it moves away from the centralized model in favor of multiple individual units for space-saving and efficiency benefits. In the right home, a ductless mini split professionally installed by Sierra Pacific Home & Comfort, Inc. in Sacramento can be the perfect climate control addition. How Do Ductless Mini Splits Work?
The key aspect of a ductless system is its decentralized design. Rather than a single indoor unit, each room or section of your Sacramento, CA home has its own individual unit. Whether you’re using ductless heating or ductless air conditioning, this two–in–one system allows you to control the temperature of each room independently, giving you a precise level of control that’s not available with centralized units.
More importantly, you can turn off the heat or the air in parts of your home that aren’t occupied—lowering the stress on the system and reducing your monthly bills to boot. We’ll help you find the right match for your home, as well as handle your ductless system installation, repair and maintenance for you. Contact our team for a job done right the first time.
Will Your Home Benefit from Going Ductless?
Sacramento, CA has a number of different home types, each with unique needs different from the next. Not all of them will benefit from a ductless system, and it’s up to you as a homeowner to determine what will work best in your household.
At Sierra Pacific Home & Comfort, Inc., we can help with this decision. We typically recommend those with smaller homes stick with more centralized units, as the benefits of ductless systems can be lost on homes with less space. However, if you have a household with a lot of space and/or many rooms, then a ductless system can help you contain your heating and cooling costs nicely. Plus, it allows each family member to tailor the temperature in their given room to their liking without interfering with the rest of the home.
FAQ’s about Ductless HVAC Systems
How do Ductless AC Systems Work? - Ductless AC systems actually work very similar to a traditional heat pump. With a heat pump, however, air travels through air ducts, but with a ductless system, no air ducts are needed. During a hot Sacramento summer, your ductless system will take the warm air from your home and cool it down by passing it through some evaporator coils. The warm air is then transferred from your home to the outdoor unit. During the cooler months, when you need heat, this process is reversed. The outdoor unit will absorb heat from the outside air and then pass this air through the refrigerant line to your air handler, which will blow the warm air into your house.
How are Ductless AC Systems Installed? Unlike a traditional Central AC system, a ductless unit can be installed quickly and easily for most homes. First, a small hole will be drilled in the wall of your home to connect the outdoor unit to the air handler. Second, we’ll mount both the outdoor unit as well as the indoor air handler unit. Lastly, we’ll install the refrigerant line, power cable, and a condensate drain through some conduit, connecting the outdoor and indoor units.
How long do Ductless AC Systems Last? - In most cases, your new ductless HVAC system should last 20 years. You can extend the life of your unit with routine maintenance from local HVAC professionals.
What are the Advantages of Ductless AC Systems - The system can be installed quickly compared to traditional air-duct HVAC systems. The ductless unit can both heat and cool your home. Ductless HVAC systems are traditionally more quiet than other units. Ductless units also use less energy and can help you save on your energy bill.
